Why should someone exercise?

  • Be “Harder to kill”

    • Those who are physically active have a lower all cause mortality rate vs those who are sedentary

      • Moderate intensity exercise: 150-300m / week

        • If you double or quadruple this amount: 300-600m / week

          • Even more effective in reducing all cause mortality: 26-31%

      • Vigorous intensity exercise: 75-150m / week

      • Those who are performing less than the minimum recommendation of exercise see the most benefits

    • You become less prone to disease, your mind and body become more resilient, you can meet the demands of everyday life: work challenges, issues in personal life, and overall physical preparedness

  • Have the freedom and independence to do what you like, when you like

    • Being generally fit, especially through exercise that is applicable to daily life, allows you to be ready for whatever comes your way

      • Ie. if you want to go hiking, no problem ⇒ running late and need to take the stairs or catch the bus, no problem ⇒ need to move some furniture around, no problem
